The DVD can be used with our "Our Working Lives" Reminiscence Guide, either one-to-one or with groups of older people who grew up in the 1940s - 1960s, contains menu based film clips of archive film which can be explored in various ways to stimulate reminiscence and conversation.
The film clips will also give carers a glimpse of working life in those days, including jobs that have now changed or completely disappeared.
These Living Memories resources can also be used to aid discussion between younger and older members of the community and compare growing up after World War II with life in the early 21st century.
Topics about the 1950s & 1960s covered in this "Our Working Lives" DVD 1 include:
- Working life in a cotton mill - a look at different jobs and facilities provided for employees
- Air crew - training to be an air hostess
- Fruit picking and processing
This Reminiscence Guide (44 pages) will be shipped upon publication in April 2017. It complements "Our Working Lives" Pt 2 DVD and suggests how scenes in each film clip can be explored to stimulate reminiscence and conversation. It can be used one-to-one or with groups of older people who grew up in the 1940s - 1960s, particularly those developing dementia.
The Guide includes pages on which to record personal notes and patients" comments about each film clip for future reference.
The film clips will also give carers a glimpses of different lives in those days.
